bluno.org podcast #001

Well here we go. My first venture into Podcasting. I am going to keep this true to the name, and let my iPod pick seven songs randomly. There will be no restriction on genre, so we’ll get some weird combos. This first ‘cast doesn’t disappoint in that dept – Low, followed by Circle Jerks. Brilliant.

So, expect a largely indie/punk selection, with a few surprises thrown in.

podcast #001 includes:
The Beatnuts – Find That (Instrumental)
Mane Joao – Wanderlea (from Samba Soul 70!)
Amon Tobin – Bitter Twisted
Low – Dinosaur Act
Circle Jerks – Wasted
David Bowie – Stay
The Jesus Lizard – South Mouth

If you want to play along at home, just subscribe to this RSS feed:
http://www.bluno.org/podcast/index.xml

I will try to do this a couple times a week, as an experiment – just to see if this takes off organically.

podcastigating

So… podcasting: The newest geekiest way to use blogs, mp3′s and RSS feeds. I love the idea of merging personal publishing and broadcasting, but for some reason I am skeptical. It is still a bit of a laborious process to subscribe to podcasts, and isn’t nearly as convenient as tuning in various streams on the net, but the portability is pretty cool.

There are a few good ‘casts out there, but I haven’t bothered to actually participate as a listener. Catching my eye (but not my ear) so far is Acts of Volition Radio posts decent stuff, and Jade Tree Records has a ‘cast as well, which is cool.

I spent plenty of late nights at KZUM, Lincoln’s community radio station, and I have recently been considering getting a show going again, but the hassles of merging bad timeslots (the only ones which open up) and real life seem prohibitive.

So, I have been researching the technical aspects of ‘casting, and I will post some stuff soon. We’ll see if any listeners are drawn in.

Speaking of Punk History…

Punk-Rock Mecca Of The World, On The Verge Of Extinction

$91,000 in back rent = Uh-oh. (And is the link to MTV.com ironic, or just lazy linkage? You decide.)

Diary of a Bad Housewife. If you are unfamiliar with Alice Bag, she was singer for the legindary L.A. punk band the Bags. Her official website is a trasure trove of cool punk stuff old and new, videos, flyers plus the Women in L.A. Punk section is great and it’s great to see her in action with Stay at Home Bomb. Cool!

Film Scanner Fun

I just bought a film scanner off Ebay, so I will be going through the archives and posting some fun stuff. In this installment, we have very early skateboarding in lincoln at the Fishbowl (ca. 1979?, from the Flowerday Archives), a portrait of my old band (Photo: Bill Jones), and Mike Vallely doing a giant ollie at a clandestine skate spot in South Central Los Angeles in 1989 (Photo: Me). Too much fun.
