Monolingual

Monolingual is a pretty neat app for you OS X users who want to reclaim a bit of hard drive space. It goes through your system and removes localization files for languages you probably don’t speak. It allows you to check which languages you want to remove, in the event that you do need to make use of Armenian, or whatever your first, second or third language may be.

Plus, it’s free! Pretty sweet. (Stumbled upon via allforces)

  1. Be careful with that one… I borked my OSX with the “Delete PowerPC binaries” option.

  2. oh no! That sucks…

I noticed those options and unchecked the ‘architechtures’ options because that kind of scared me. removing the localization files saved me 1.3 gig.

Did you already re-install? bummer saturday night.

  3. I thought I’d have to do a total reinstall but I lucked out. I just had to do an archive and install, and everything else was left in place. So it didn’t take long to do, but it still sucked having to run a system install and the batch of updates less than a week after having bought the computer.
