  100 years ago, our adopted city went up in smoke. Actually, the house we live in survived, and we live near the little fire hydrant that could. Tomorrow morning (in a few hours, actually), all but the heaviest sleepers will be roused by churchbells and sirens sounding at 5:14AM. See also SF Rising and Quake stuff at SFGate.
