car d’or

Well, I guess it is a rite of passage for any urban bike commuter to have a car (in this case, a taxi) door open into your path. I got off EXTREMELY easy.

I was slowly making my way through stopped traffic at Market and New Montgomery when the passenger side of the taxi started to open. Luckily for me, I was going very slow, and the door opened very slowly as well.

I had enough time to holler out “Woah!!” (my midwestern roots showing in the big city, i guess), and I slow motion bonked into the door, and tipped into the curb and against the BART/MUNI escalator wall.

I gave the young woman a LONG stare and said “BE CAREFUL NEXT TIME - OKAY?”

And I rode away telling myself the exact same thing.
