I normally don’t ask women about their clothing on the morning bus ride, or on any other bus ride or anywhere else for that matter, but she was wearing a coat that looked like it was designed by Prairie Underground, a clothing company started by Camilla Eckersley and Davora Lindner, whom I knew back in high school. Tammy has one of the same designs, and well… I just felt like asking.
Actually, it was more than that. Many people I know or have known are hitting strides with their businesses, hobbies, and passions.
Here’s a quick rundown:
Brendan is head brewmaster at Aksarben Brewing Company
Tara and Ann are heading into their seventh year at Bella Skin Care and Massage, and opened a new location.
Kevin helped birth issue 35 of the skateboard mag
The whole Saddle Creek Records Empire shows no sign of slowing down.
Sydney is kicking butt racing her bike at every opportunity, it seems.
It’s really cool to see friends and family setting out to do the things they are passionate about, working hard, and finding success. I enjoy hearing the stories of the hard work, the struggle, even the mundanity of just getting the job done just as much as the stories of successes. I think it’s part of an entrepreneurial drive I have.
For me, I think I’m getting closer to the stride. I’m trying; learning volumes every day. I have no shortage of inspiration from these friends. Keep going all!
By the way… the woman on the bus loves her coat and wears it every chance she gets.

Bernie, I’d say you had a stride that outpaces us all. I can’t think of a more energetic, positive, and risk-taking person than you. And the best part of that is, you rub off on people. Just being around you makes people feel more like they can do what they set out to do. I bet your teams at c-net really appreciate and benefit from that.
